Children Bring “DUISBurg” out of Hibernation in Art Workshops Supported by City Program

Friday April 14, 2023 | City of Duisburg – Two art workshops supported the children in their creative process: the children brought the “DUISBurg” out of its hibernation.

The children transformed the former “Hellersdorf travel castle”, which was transported from Berlin to Duisburg, into the “smallest museum in the world”. In the second workshop, the children learned artistic techniques and basics. Colors were made, tried out and painted with different brushes and backgrounds.

Astrid Neese, Head of Education, Labor and Social Affairs, was enthusiastic about the children’s works of art: “We know that the consequences of the pandemic will be felt by children and young people for a long time to come. Here the children had the opportunity to let their feelings run free and thus process the phase. I am delighted that we were able to offer this special care option and I am delighted with the results.”

The project ran under the action program “Catching up after Corona for children and young people”, for which the state of North Rhine-Westphalia provided funding to catch up on learning deficits caused by the pandemic by schoolchildren of all types of schools. In addition to individual budgets for the Duisburg schools, the Office for School Education also organizes extracurricular activities from the action program.
