Children are also victims on a day of indiscriminate violence in Myanmar

Military violence in Myanmar has also killed and injured children today, the independent news agency reported Myanmar Now and the BBC.

In Yangon, a 1-year-old girl was hit in the eye with a rubber bullet while playing in the street. In Mandalay, a 5-year-old boy was shot in the head and taken to hospital in critical condition.

In Meiktila, in the middle of the country, a 14-year-old girl was shot. Her mother tells the BBC that she quickly closed the door when she saw soldiers entering her street. But she was too late: she saw her daughter fall and blood spurt from her breast.

According to an aid organization for political prisoners, 20 minors have been killed by the army since the military coup on February 1. The youngest is a seven-year-old girl who was shot dead in Mandalay last week.

According to a BBC reporter, the arbitrariness of the violence was particularly shocking today. Soldiers seemed to shoot anyone who ventured into the street. For example, images from a security camera showed that boys were shot off a scooter.

It was the bloodiest day in Myanmar to date, with 114 dead, according to Myanmar Now. In total, 400 people are said to have died since February 1.

Today’s images make it clear how large the arbitrariness of the police is:
