Nine people, including seven children and two teachers, were killed in a shooting at a high school in the Russian capital, Kazan.
President Rustam Minikhanov confirmed the deaths of seven eighth-graders – four boys and three girls, as well as a teacher. Twelve children and four adults were taken to hospital.

There were two attackers. One, a 19-year-old former graduate of the school, was detained. He had an officially registered weapon. The second shooter was killed by security forces in the high school building. His identity has not yet been established.

One of the attackers entered through the main entrance with an automatic weapon and immediately opened fire, a source from the Ministry of Education told TASS. A staff member was injured at the entrance.
The teacher who died in the shooting had a class with fifth-graders.
Some students jumped out of the windows to escape the shooting. One of the girls said that an explosion first broke out, after which the shooting began.

The perpetrator of the bloody attack was 19-year-old Ilnaz Galyaviev. He was a last-grader at a local college, where he was recently expelled.
