Marco Odermatt and Fabian Bösch look back on their long friendship in the SRF program “Gredig direct”. The two ski talents met many years ago – when they were still kids.
Odi from Buochs and Bösch from Engelberg had the same sporting goals: to become skiers! But the two got along great off the slopes as well. The families got to know each other and the friendship grew.
In the student races, they took turns winning. It was clear: Two extraordinary athletes are growing up here.
While Odi stayed with the races, Bösch decided in his teens that he would switch disciplines. From now on, the 25-year-old will be in action on freestyle skis.
It was a tough decision for his buddy Odermatt. “I can still remember the situation. I found out in a call from my father that Fabian is definitely stopping,” he says. “Then I really started to cry.”
Marco Odermatt: “It hurts as a boy”
At that age you didn’t travel as much as you do today. “Nevertheless, training started again in the summer. We had training camps on the glaciers, we traveled all over Switzerland.”
Whether in Valais or Graubünden – the two ski talents spent a lot of time together. “We were best colleagues. And when a best colleague suddenly takes a completely different path and you lose sight of each other a bit. Then it hurts as a boy.”
Despite the tearful farewell: Today you can say that the two did everything right. Marco Odermatt dominates the Alpine World Cup at will. And during his freestyle career, Bösch has become world champion and gold medal winner at the Winter X Games, among other things.
