“Look, a bear!” calls the blond boy at the round children’s table and holds up an animal mold filled with blue play dough. The person sitting next to her, she is the one with the pigtails over her ears, has chosen the bird model into which she is now carefully pressing the red modeling clay. The third in the group, the “Little Red Riding Hood”, is not ready yet; she works her orange kneading plate with a small rolling pin. The three are busy – Rona Mehrabuddin therefore has her eyes on the youngest. He sits enthroned on his diaper bottom on the colorful play mat and watches what’s going on.
Erlensee – The Erlensee childminder is currently caring for four children between the ages of 14 months and almost three years. Five, like last year, are too many to be able to act spontaneously in the activities, she explains. The meeting point on the top floor of the terraced house on Wusterwitzer Strasse is the playroom. Mehrabuddin equipped it with a children’s kitchen; The little ones can help themselves to the toys in the low cupboard elements. They come from Erlensee and Bruchköbel and are brought by their parents in the morning by 8.30 a.m. at the latest. Then we have breakfast together at the children’s table: “They like to eat sandwiches,” says the childminder, “there is cheese, vegetables – for example tomatoes – and fruit, and milk and water to drink.”
It never gets boring in the surrogate family
When the weather is nice, the small group rarely stays inside. Either it goes to play in the garden or on an excursion. “I’m a nature person and generally like to be outside, especially in the summer,” says Mehrabuddin. Walks in the green surroundings and, of course, visits to various playgrounds are part of the childminder’s standard programme. “There’s often shade and there’s always fresh air.” The ice cream parlor at the Erlensee town hall is of course also a popular destination. But Mehrabuddin also knows attractive points in Hanau such as the pheasantry or the amusement park; the car is used instead of the six-seater “children’s bus”. On Mondays, the daycare parents and children from Erlensee and Neuberg meet for gymnastics and exchange ideas at TSG, she reports; every Thursday invite a games meeting in the community center “Zum Neuen Löwen”. The children in the surrogate family will certainly not be bored.
Rona Mehrabuddin found childcare to be ideal for her when she wanted to be there for her youngest daughter herself. About 20 years ago the family lived in Offenbach, Mehrabuddin supported her husband in his own shop in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen, where there were kitchen items, gifts and children’s toys. “We moved to Erlensee in 2004 and I stayed with our three children,” she says in retrospect. Even when they were still in daycare, she helped with trips, for example. “Then the city registered me for an orientation day upon request, and I’ve been a qualified childminder since 2013.” She is entitled to 25 days of vacation and three further training courses each year – each in Gelnhausen. “If I’m on vacation and don’t go away, I get bored after three days and want to be looked after again,” she says with a smile.
Contact with parents is good
The contact with the parents of their childminders is good: “They understand me and support me when needed; and if necessary, the children can stay here longer.”
But farewell is a long way off – it will soon be time for lunch. The childminder prepares it in the evening or early morning before her little guests come. Favorite dishes are stir fry, pasta casserole, potatoes with fish fingers and meatballs with rice. Between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. there is an afternoon rest, “although the two older ones are already sleeping a little less”. In the playroom, four lightweight foam beds are stacked on top of each other and spread out. At 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. your protégés will be picked up again.
“Being loving towards the children, friendly towards the parents – and mutual respect”: These are good prerequisites for the profession to be successful, sums up Rona Mehrabuddin.(by Sabine Mueller)
Information about child care
The city of Erlensee cooperates with the municipality of Neuberg in day care for children. 17 women and 1 man are currently looking after around 70 children. These also come from surrounding communities in the Main-Kinzig district and from Hanau. “We are pretty well positioned in Erlensee when it comes to day care for children,” says Kathrin Smola-Peter, an employee of the Erlensee city administration (childcare specialist service), “that’s not the case elsewhere, which is why we get a lot of inquiries from outside.” At the beginning of the free training there is an orientation day that provides information about the job profile; This is followed by the two-part theoretical and practical qualification (with intermediate examination), which extends over several months. The day care parents undertake to take part in further training events every year.
If you are interested in the training or would like to have your child looked after in day care, you can get more information online or from the child care department of the city of Erlensee, Kathrin Smola-Peter, z 06183 9151508, email ksmola-peter@erlensee.de. » webkita.erlensee.de
