Child with fever after Eid? IDAI Asks Parents to Beware of This Disease

Jakarta

Lebaran holiday moment is a fun thing. In addition to strengthening friendship, holidays can also restore enthusiasm and reduce stress.

Unfortunately, after the Lebaran holidays, children often experience fever, which is usually caused by changes in diet, lack of rest, air in a new environment, and body rhythms that change during the holidays. Especially if the condition of the child is tired and has a weak immune system.

Head of the Coordination Working Unit (UKK) for Tropical Infections of the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) dr Anggraini Alam reminded parents to be aware of several infectious diseases characterized by early symptoms such as fever. Diseases to watch out for, such as COVID-19, influenza which causes headaches and sore throats, urinary tract infections due to holding back urination or late changing diapers, and several other infectious diseases.

“Children who play, get injured, and don’t bathe, can be (infected with) leptospira. Therefore, all infectious diseases show fever,” said the doctor who is familiarly called Anggi, in a virtual broadcast of IDAI, Tuesday (10/5/ 2022).

Dr. Anggi reminded that after the Eid holiday, parents should check their child’s temperature. A normal child’s body temperature is around 36.8. If you have gone through that, you have to be careful.

“When a child has a fever, ask when the fever started, what signs appear, what are the child’s activities, and what they eat and drink,” he said.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, early screening is very helpful because the current virus spreads very quickly. By knowing the cause of a child’s fever, treatment can be done immediately.

“Most of the (symptoms) in children are not severe, so doing a quick check during the COVID-19 era is very helpful,” he explained.
