Yes, the Suwon Anyang Branch District Court issued an arrest warrant for Kim Geun-sik, a child sex offender at around 6:00 pm today, two hours ago.
In 2006, the court ruled that Kim Geun-sik’s sex crime against a child under the age of 13 had been cleared up at the time and there was a risk of escaping and destroying evidence.
The merit examination of the arrest warrant for Kim Geun-sik took place in court from 3pm today.
30 minutes earlier, a Justice Ministry escort vehicle, carrying Kim Geun-sik from Anyang Prison, appeared in the prosecutor’s office, but Kim’s appearance was not revealed.
It is known that Kim Geun-sik moved to court through the underground passage connecting the prosecutor’s office and the court.
In the process of Kim Geun-sik’s transfer, police have deployed around 200 police forces around the courthouse to prepare for any eventuality.
Kim Geun-sik, who was arrested again with a day to go after serving 15 years in prison, was charged with forcibly molesting a child under the age of 13 in 2006.
The investigation began when an adult victim reported a sex crime against Kim Geun-sik in December last year.
Although a long time has passed, the investigating authorities explain that there is no problem with the statute of limitations as it is a sexual crime against a minor.
After about 7 months of investigation, the police handed the case over to the prosecution in July last year and the prosecution requested an arrest warrant yesterday, 1 year and 3 months later.
Regarding the recent request for a warrant, a prosecutor explained: “It’s been a long time, so it took some time to collect and analyze the evidence.”
Since the arrest warrant was issued today, Kim Geun-sik’s plan, who was released tomorrow morning and stayed at the Ministry of Justice’s rehabilitation facility in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi-do, became unexpected.
Uijeongbu city authorities, who protested that if Kim Geun-sik enters Uijeongbu, neighboring streets will also be closed, said they were satisfied with the measure that prevented the release of sex offenders and were relieved.
Kim Geun-sik will remain in Anyang Prison in the future and will be subject to further investigation by the prosecution.
