Child Protection Association: Ordered isolation of children suspected of having Corona violates children’s rights

The Child Protection Association is currently receiving reports that even very young children should stay in their own room separately from the rest of the family in the event of a suspected corona virus. In at least one case, a family was threatened with removal from the 8-year-old child’s family if they violated the law.

Child Protection Association President Heinz Hilgers explains: “The quarantine situation is already very stressful for families, especially for children. Isolating children from their parents and siblings during this phase is a form of psychological violence. The Child Protection Association considers these measures to be disproportionate and unacceptable. The threat of being taken out and placed in an isolation ward with the sharp sword also unsettles families in the long term.” Measures must definitely be taken to contain the pandemic. This can also be regulated by including the entire household or at least one parent with custody in the quarantine measures.

“I call on local authorities to give priority to child welfare and children’s rights in all measures to contain the corona pandemic,” concluded Hilgers.
