The German authorities reported this Tuesday the dismantling of a large child pornography platform that operated on the so-called “dark internet” (darknet) and had hundreds of thousands of users, as well as the arrest of seven people as the main perpetrators of it. .
At a press conference in Duisburg, the Minister of the Interior of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Herbert Reul, described the case as “dizzyingly large”, according to media reports.
In raids carried out last September in six federal states, agents managed to seize numerous pieces of evidence.
In total, 1,517 pieces of evidence such as laptops and mobile phones were seized and the DVDs and video tapes alone filled 94 moving boxes.
The exact amount of data cannot yet be estimated, although, according to the minister, a single suspect’s computer stored 13.5 terabytes of material, equivalent to about 3.4 million photos.
Among the arrested suspects, considered the “main promoters” of the platform on the “darknet”, there are six men between 43 and 69 years old, who are being investigated for organized distribution of child pornographic content.
About 200 agents participated in the operation against the platform, in which image and video files showing sexual abuse of underage girls were distributed and since 2019 it operated as a forum for pedophilia.
