Child killer Marc Dutroux wants out of the isolation he has been in for 26 years

The Belgian HLN writes about Dutroux’s wish after reporting by Sudpresse. A TikTok video was released last weekend showing how the killer is jeered and pelted with garbage by fellow inmates.

After investigation, it turned out that the images were already taken in 2021. Two detainees have been sentenced for making the images.

Lawyer Bruno Dayez says in a response to the video that he wants to ‘improve his client’s living conditions’. “It is not normal that the regime of isolation has been extended for 26 years by two months every time,” says the lawyer.

The Belgian government would not want to lift the isolation of the killer because then Dutroux would be in danger, writes HLN. He is ignored and bullied a lot by other inmates in Nivelles, as the TikTok video shows.

Dutroux would also like to be visited by an acquaintance with whom he calls daily. But this person would not have been allowed to do so for the time being.

Murder and rape

Dutroux shocked Belgium with the kidnapping, hostage-taking and rape of six girls in the 1990s. He murdered four of them. On several occasions he held his young victims in his house in Marcinelle, a district of the city of Charleroi.

The child killer was arrested in 1996 at a time when he was holding two kidnapped girls in the house. These last victims were rescued alive by the police.

Requests for release

Dutroux owned several houses in the region. In the garden of one of them, in Sars-la-Buissière, he buried the bodies of two girls he had starved to death in Marcinelle. An accomplice, Bernard Weinstein, also got his grave there after Dutroux had killed him.

Dutroux has applied for early release several times, but those requests have always been rejected. According to psychiatrists, he still poses a great danger.
