Three children are riding an e-scooter, then an accident occurs. A boy hurls himself through the air and his friends run away.
A driver hit an e-scooter in Berlin-Mitte that was being ridden by three children. In the collision, a twelve-year-old child suffered a broken bone and injuries to his upper body, police said on Saturday. He was operated on in a hospital and remained hospitalized there. The other two children reportedly ran away before rescue workers arrived.
According to the information, the incident occurred around 7:40 p.m. on Torstrasse. While the 28-year-old driver was driving his car from Brunnenstrasse towards Chausseestrasse, the twelve-year-old suddenly shot onto the road with his e-scooter at the level of Brunnenstrasse. The driver stated that he had initiated emergency braking and tried to pull to the left, but in vain. The child was thrown through the air and seriously injured. The driver remained uninjured.
Was a transporter blocking the view?
Since a van parked on the side of the road blocked his view, he was only able to see the children on the e-scooter very late. From the driver’s perspective, a collision was unavoidable, the spokesman said.
He and two other passers-by helped the injured twelve-year-old boy and provided first aid. The rescue workers who were called in then took over the further care of the boy. Torstrasse had to be closed until around 10:50 p.m. for rescue work and detailed accident recording. A traffic offenses department from Police Department 5 (City) is now conducting further investigations into the accident.
