Child Found Alone at Tolbiac Metro Station: Investigation by Bobigny Town Hall

How could a child who had to be supervised in evening after-school care at the Edouard-Vaillant school in Bobigny end up at the Tolbiac metro station, in the 13th arrondissement of Paris? This is what the town hall of Bobigny is trying to understand, which launched an internal investigation to determine what happened to a CP student on Monday evening.

After the end of class, at 4:30 p.m., this little 7-year-old boy educated in this establishment, attached to the Eugène-Varlin school and classified Priority Education Network (REP) was sent to the evening after-school reception which ends at 6:30 p.m. A service managed by facilitators hired by the municipality. However, when his family came to pick him up, the child was no longer there. His absence had not yet been noticed by the center teams, who probably did not yet clearly identify him at the start of the school year. “Everyone mobilized to find him, starting with the agents of our municipal police,” describes the Bobigny town hall office, which specifies that the child was not officially “registered for after-school activities and was therefore sent to the study by his teacher following the delay of the person supposed to pick him up at 4:30 p.m. This is how his absence was not noticed. »

If the child took transport, he had to change metro

According to our information, the child was found at past 8 p.m. by users of the Tolbiac metro station, 14 km away. He was then entrusted to RATP agents who managed to trace him. This station located on line 7 is not directly connected to Bobigny, located on line 5. If he took transport, the little boy therefore had to change metro. According to the town hall and the Directorate of Departmental National Education Services (DSDEN), the student was found safe and sound.

Did he escape the facility alone? Was he lured outside by a malicious adult? Did he leave school while he was still under the responsibility of National Education or already under that of the facilitators? Contacted, the DSDEN believes that the incident took place “during extracurricular time”. “Which will not prevent us from monitoring the situation and ensuring that his return to school takes place in the best possible conditions,” she explains.

Hospitalized in Bondy to check if he had not been mistreated

For its part, the town hall is still trying to determine what exactly happened. “A priori, the child never arrived at the study. There was surely a problem with the transition between school and after-school care, describes the office of the mayor, Abdel Sadi (PCF). We are trying to see if he escaped the vigilance of National Education. As it stands (Editor’s note: this Tuesday evening), we do not yet know everything. It’s going to take us a little time to sort this out. » He adds that the municipality will do everything to ensure that this incident does not happen again.

According to a source, the child initially indicated that he left the establishment alone. He then said he met a man who offered him candy. The little boy was therefore hospitalized for part of the night and during the day on Tuesday at the Jean-Verdier hospital in Bondy, where he met with the forensic medicine service to verify that he was not a victim. of abuse. And try to retrace what he experienced during these few hours. The duration and length of his journey indeed raises a question: how was he able, despite his young age, to get to this metro station without being spotted earlier by adults who crossed his path? The surveillance cameras in Bobigny and Paris will perhaps allow us to find out more.
