NEW YORK — A young boy in Brooklyn died after his mother’s boyfriend threw him against a wall because he woke him up in his sleep, fracturing his skull and ultimately causing his death, police say.
Deputies were called to a home on East 68th Street in Bergen Beach just before noon Sunday where they found a 2-year-old boy unconscious with bruises on his stomach. First responders took the boy to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where he died shortly thereafter.
The medical examiner determined that the boy, who has not been identified, suffered head and body injuries. His death was ruled a homicide.
On Monday, police arrested 23-year-old Latrell Lewis, charging him with murder in the boy’s death.
Police said Lewis was the boyfriend of the boy’s mother and usually worked as a babysitter for him. Lewis admitted to throwing the boy against the wall after becoming angry that he woke him up while he was sleeping, resulting in the boy sustaining fatal injuries, according to police.
The suspect was arrested and now faces murder charges.
