Police and an ambulance responded on Wednesday afternoon to a report of a possible fall accident from a low height in a kindergarten in Farsund.
Healthcare personnel performed life-saving healthcare on the spot, and the child was transported by air ambulance to the hospital in Kristiansand.
In a press release on Wednesday evening, the municipality states that the child died.
– We are deeply affected by the information that a child has passed away after an incident in a kindergarten in Farsund on Wednesday afternoon. Our thoughts go out to the relatives, writes the municipality.

The police have two main theories
The police have opened a case after the accident, and are carrying out investigations at the scene. As of now, there should be no information indicating that anything criminal has occurred.
The municipality states that the police work according to two main hypotheses:
- That an accident has occurred
- That the death has a medical cause
Operations manager Øyvind Hægeland in the Agder police district announced earlier on Wednesday afternoon to Lister 24 that it was unclear what exactly had happened, but that it was probably a matter of a fall from a rock.
– It is still too early to determine the cause of death, writes the municipality.

The mayor strongly impressed
The mayor of Farsund municipality, Arnt Abrahamsen (Ap), is deeply affected by the incident.
– This is an unimaginable tragedy – an incredibly sad event, says Abrahamsen to Dagbladet.
He states that the incident affects the local community, and that it is quiet in the city streets this evening.
The municipality has set up crisis management, and a psychosocial crisis team has been established to look after parents and staff in the nursery.
The mayor states that it was a girl who died.
– Our thoughts go primarily to close family and friends, but also to the nursery school and the staff there. It is clear that this will affect them for a long time. The important thing now is to show up and take care of each other, he says.
