Child bitten by bat dies in Mexico

Three brothers aged 2, 7 and 8 were bitten by a bat in the village of Palo de Lima in the Mexican state of Oaxaca.

In the statement released by the Ministry of Health of the state of Oaxaca, it is said that the 7-year-old boy, admitted to hospital with suspected rabies after being bitten by a bat, died despite all the interventions.

Treatment of the other two brothers was said to have continued, but the 8-year-old boy’s condition was serious and he was connected to a mechanical ventilator. It was learned that the child was kept in the pediatric service and his condition was good.

Authorities said they are awaiting laboratory results for a definitive diagnosis of the children with suspected rabies and showing signs of a fear of water.
