Two children caused a fire in the forest area parallel to Nuthestraße at the Neuendorfer Straße exit. Witnesses were able to observe how the two people first lit a campfire, which apparently got out of control. Furthermore, a forest ranger saw from her high position how the two people then threw something into the embankment and it started to burn. The children got scared and tried to run away.
Officials were able to identify the two minors, aged 10 and 13, not far from the scene of the fire. The fire had already spread to 100 square meters of forest and meadows, but was quickly contained and extinguished by the alerted fire brigade. Rapid intervention was the only way to prevent major damage. Several lighters were found with the children. They were then handed over to their parents.
There had already been a fire in the area of Steinstrasse in the Stern district on Thursday. Several sources of fire were reported here, which extended to the state border to Berlin. The fire brigade was in action in large numbers. The police assume arson and initiated criminal proceedings.
