On the afternoon of Tuesday, November 5, the Municipal Police responded to a report about a abandoned baby inside the Cathedral of Saint Anthony of Padualocated on Hidalgo Avenue and 4a, in the downtown area of Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua.
The report was recorded at 4:57 p.m.
The newborn babywas wrapped in a blanket and lay on one of the stalls. The incident was reported by one of the priests of the church, who realized the situation.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police interviewed the priest, who explained that through the surveillance videos A young woman was observed entering the cathedral with the baby in her arms. The woman sat on a benchse covered the head and left the baby on the first bench before leaving the temple in an unknown direction.
Minutes later, a couple who entered the cathedral discovered the baby and they notified a nun, who in turn informed the priest. He contacted 911 to alert the authorities.
Upon arrival, the police found a light-skinned baby, weighing approximately three kilograms and apparently 24 hours of birthsince he carried a hospital bracelet dated November 4th. The girl was dressed in a brown onesie and wrapped in a pink blanket, next to her was a diaper bag with her clothes.
The bracelet also contained the name of possible motherwhich will allow the corresponding authorities to follow up on the case.
Local media reported that after being transferred to the Municipal Civic Justice Center, a doctor examined the baby and confirmed that she was in good health. Subsequently, it was handed over to the Assistant Deputy Attorney General’s Office for the Protection of the Rights of Girls, Boys and Adolescents of the State DIF.
