Ivan Geshev sent a letter to the chairman of the 49th National Assembly, Rosen Zhelyazkov, with a request to be heard by the people’s representatives in connection with specific pre-trial proceedings related to corruption at the highest levels of power and trading in influence.

The chief prosecutor indicates that the hearing should be held behind closed doors, given the sensitive information contained in the pre-trial proceedings.

The letter emphasizes that protecting the independence of the judiciary is inextricably linked to transparency and cooperation with other authorities. “The open dialogue would help to confirm the European standards in order to guarantee stability and justice for the society”, says Geshev.
