Chief Prosecutor Accuses Boyko Borisov of Pressure: Analysis of Recent Events

The chief prosecutor made serious accusations against Boyko Borisov for pressure. And his deputy – Borislav Sarafov stated that there is an unbalanced person at the head of the prosecutor’s office.

Ivan Geshev came with all his deputies – except one. Without Borislav Sarafov.
Geshev showed his resignation, then slowly tore it up and threw it on the floor.

In his one-hour statement and analysis of the events of the last week, he also gave examples that Boyko Metodiev Borisov was behind the attempt to remove him.

According to Geshev, his absent deputy “the face Borislav Bobi Sarafov”, as Geshev called him more than once, was involved in the attacks.

The attorney general vowed to serve out his term to “sweep out the political trash.”
And he did not answer a single journalistic question.

Days after GERB’s candidate for prime minister, Maria Gabriel, declared that he wanted the removal of the chief prosecutor, and six prosecutors from the Supreme Judicial Council demanded that he leave early, Ivan Geshev gave his first statement.

“Yesterday, arriving from the USA, I was invited until 10 o’clock to submit my resignation. My family was mentioned and that if I don’t how to say…someone will “press enter with some stuff, videos” and so I better be prudent because life goes on.

I won’t say who, it was unsigned. And I can assume – when I am convinced of who it is and I am sure, and whether he is close to a political party, for example GERB, I will let you know,” said Geshev.

According to the chief prosecutor, everything started months ago.

“Then I received a veiled proposal. They said it was from Boyko Borisov – to become ambassador either to Israel or to Turkey, and possibly to have a political career, perhaps in his party. I didn’t take it seriously, but apparently that’s when the organization of everything we see began. Then you know about the assassination attempt against me. It was a shock. I think the goal is to be killed,” said Geshev.

He also talked about his conversations with politicians.

“On Thursday, Ms Gabriel said the first order of business was to demand the resignation of the Attorney General. I called a politician I knew and thought was my friend. A woman politician. And she said: understand me. I was by her side. I heard it from her for the first time. It became clear to me that a narrow circle of people knew this. The person Boyko Borisov and maybe one or two or five others. Here I am surprised by the position of the DPS, because they have always had a principled position,” he pointed out

And he explained that after the attack on the first of May, he did not know the opinion of his deputy Borislav Sarafov, who came out with a critical position against his superior.

“Then I saw a position in BTA in the person of Sarafov. I called him and he said he was very embarrassed but there was nothing he could do. This is synthesis. And I asked him – you know it’s not true. And he: I’m sorry, but understand me,” Geshev said.

And in recent days, he also received a message from a prosecutor, whose name he did not name.

“I don’t know if you know, but Sarafov told edi who you are, he told edi who you are, and that I have to close the Barcelonagate case by Friday. Some weird fact just… I said I’m not familiar. Since the case is under special supervision, I notified the supervising prosecutor at the VKP. She said that she received a detailed report from me that she cannot finish before September due to procedural reasons and to work according to the law,” explained the chief prosecutor.

At the end: Geshev again specified that he will finish his mandate.

“I will finish the mandate despite this, because for me there is only one thing that matters. Bulgarian citizens should have security and it is time to sweep away this political garbage – I regret this definition. God is with us and we with him,” Geshev concluded.

Geshev said that he has invited his deputy Sarafov to resign, and if he does not do so, he will submit a request for his release tomorrow.
