jpnn.com, JAKARTA – The 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) data shows the prevalence of diabetes of 8.5 percent, an increase compared to the 2013 Riskesdas of 6.9 percent.
This shows that Diabetes Mellitus is one of the chronic diseases that cause the highest death in Indonesia with an increasing number of morbidity.
Quoted from the official statement of the Ministry of Health on Tuesday (20/4), Chairman of the Indonesian Endocrinology Association (Perkeni) Ketut Suastika said one of the causes of diabetes is obesity which is not treated immediately.
Prediabetic patients are characterized by increased blood sugar. Their Fasting Blood Sugar ranges from 100 to 125, while their After Meal Blood Sugar is 140 to 200.
“If this condition is left unchecked, then sooner or later he will fall into diabetes,” he said in a discussion on National Diabetes Day 2021, Monday (19/4).
Ketut emphasized that primary prevention must be carried out since the prediabetes stage in order to prevent heart complications.
One of the primary preventative efforts is to achieve an ideal weight.
“The most important thing is to manage your lifestyle, don’t forget to do regular physical activity, keep your diet, and carry out early examinations,” he continued. (mcr9 / jpnn)
