General Kukuła’s statement aroused many emotions

On Friday in Wrocław, during the inauguration of the new year at the Land Forces Academy, General Wiesław Kukuła gave a lecture. The current Chief of the General Staff stated that there are many indications that the current generation will have to stand up with weapons in their hands to defend their homeland..

“And neither I, nor do I think any of you, intend to lose this war. We will win it, we will come back and we will continue to build Poland, but something has to happen. We must build armed forces prepared for this type of actions,” said General Kukuła.

What do you think about his statement? Gen. Mieczysław Cieniuchwho headed the general staff in 2010-2013? In an interview with Onet, he softens General Kukuła’s statements.

— It was a situational statement – to students, to future officers starting their studies at a military university. It was not intended to cause any particular panic in the country. I wouldn’t draw far-reaching conclusions from it, says Gen. Mieczysław Cieniuch.

He considers General Kukuła’s words justified in the sense that they were intended to encourage future officers to work hard. And they were addressed to them.

— They are to spend this academic year and the next ones on hard work, exercises and preparations. The time of peace in Poland that we currently have is a break from the point of view of the army, for which a period of crisis and armed conflict is something “normal” for which the army is preparing. This statement means that we should prepare and not relax, adds Gen. Mieczysław Cieniuch.

However, it reassures and emphasizes that Poland is not facing a critical threat. After all, we are in the most powerful alliance, which is NATO, we have a strategic partnership with the largest power in the world, i.e. the USA, we belong to the European Union, and we also have our own defense capabilities.
