JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK), Anwar Usman, was asked to step down from his position because he wanted to marry Idayati, the younger brother of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Director of the Center for Constitutional Studies (Pusako) Andalas University, Feri Amsari, Anwar Usman must take steps to resign from office to avoid conflict of interest.
“For the love of the Constitutional Court and the idol of the heart, you should resign because the potential conflict of interest will make people prejudice against the Constitutional Court’s decision,” said Feri to Kompas.com, Tuesday (22/3/2022).
In Feri’s view, Anwar and Idayati’s marriage will have an effect on the state administration.
“However, the head of the MK will convene on matters related to the president and the president’s political interests,” he said.
Conflict of interest it could emerge on legal testing related to the president’s interests.
“Conflicts of interest will arise because in every judicial review because the president is one of the parties. This conflict must be avoided by the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court so that the Justice it still has dignity,” he said.
Feri emphasized that it is important for the Indonesian people to have a constitutional court that is continuously protected from power relations.
“Those who obey the values of a judiciary that are free from all power relations,” said Fery.
Idayati has been married to Anwar. The two of them will get married in the city of Solo, Central Java on May 26, 2022.
Idayati said that their relationship was because they were introduced by a friend.
