Javier Chicharito Hernández awakened nostalgia among the Guadalajara fans by scoring his first goal with the Chivas shirt after 14 years. The goal was key for the Guadalajara team to celebrate a 3-2 victory at home against Puebla.
The victory propels Guadalajara to reach 22 points and be in the play-in zone for now on matchday 14 of the Apertura 2024 tournament. In contrast, the Pueblans only have five units.
Since his return to Mexico this season, injuries and discomfort had prevented Chicharito Hernández from showing his current level. It was just now, upon reappearing after two weeks out, when he scored his first goal in his second stage with Guadalajara.
The goal was very much his style, taking advantage of a bad start from the goalkeeper, receiving the ball with his right foot to accommodate it and scoring with his left foot in the 34th minute.
It was the preamble for Guadalajara to be more risky in attack. Thus, against a Puebla that had no options in attack, Erick Gutiérrez increased the score in the 57th minute with a header.
Just two minutes later, the game was decided, after Roberto Alvarado took advantage of an error by the Puebla defense, which gave him the ball, to shoot from point-blank range and shake the nets.
Diego de Buen (88) and Alberto Herrera (90+3) created tension when they scored for Puebla, but the reaction was late. The duel closed with controversy after referee Fernando Guerrero withdrew a red card to Carlos Cisneros with the intervention of the VAR for slapping Brayan Angulo.
