The Mexican Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, who plays for Chivas de Guadalajara as a forward, assured that returning to the team where he began his career that has given him many glories, gave him the feeling of being a soccer player again.
“I am moved, happy because beyond knowing that this moment was going to come sooner or later, today I felt like a footballer again,” said the scorer at a press conference.
This Saturday Hernández returned to the fields, in Chivas’ 3-1 victory over the UNAM Pumas. He played his first minutes in Mexico after more than 13 years in which he wore the shirts of Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern Leverkusen, West Ham, Sevilla and the LA Galaxy of the MLS.
Against the Pumas, Hernández played the last seven minutes of the game and was greeted with shouts from the fans who packed the stadium for his possible reappearance, recovered from a knee injury.
“Chicharito” pointed out that, although he was discharged from the injury, he still does not feel fit to play as a starter, but he trusted that with the minutes accumulated in the next matches he can improve in football.
“I’m not here for 90 minutes, that’s going to take time; It will depend on many factors, it may last much longer than we think or less,” she acknowledged.
Guadalajara defeated Pumas de la UNAM at home 3-1 with goals from Cade Cowell, Víctor Guzmán and Antonio Briseño, rising to seventh place in the Clausura tournament standings, with 15 points.
Guadalajara will visit the leader Cruz Azul next Saturday on matchday 10 of the tournament and four days later they will play the first leg of the round of 16 of the CONCACAF Champions Cup against América.
