‘Chicago’ welcomes Bianca Marroquín back to Broadway

Mexican actress Bianca Marroquín returns to Broadway in the musical Chicago, reprising the role of Velma Kelly, a legendary role in musical theater. This after she made her debut 20 years ago in the role of Roxie Hart, in the same musical.

“To begin with, it was a great honor when I was given the opportunity to be Velma, returning from the pandemic when it was the opening of all the plays on Broadway and as Roxie had done for 20 years. The fact that they offered me a challenge, and for me it was an experience that I can’t explain how lucky I feel… So, the fact that I get to live that experience of opening the show and with the iconic song that John Kander wrote for this also legendary work, is a great gift for me…”

“…I appreciate it a lot. Obviously it requires a lot physically and technique and well focused and a lot of precision and discipline in that aspect. Vocally too, but I seek to give Velma a very human angle. Apart from comedy, which I also want to include a lot “I want to give her that danger that Velma deserves, that she has. But at the same time I also want them to see how vulnerable Velma can be,” explains the famous artist.

At the same time, Marroquín is preparing to return to the 54 Below stage in Manhattan for a concert where he will share very personal experiences with the public.

“On April first he returned to 54 Below since 2017, which he did not return. ANDI am preparing a very nice concert, obviously with stories, and tomorrow I have more to tell because a lot has happened to me. It is a concert called “Where you are/ Donde estás” And we are putting together this concert with seven musicians and all my stories, telling…”, he says.

“…It’s very eclectic because it obviously played English, Spanish, different rhythms, very fun genres. I’m back from rehearsal right now we’re going over everything I want to keep, something very, very, very nice to offer the livestream audience. And that is what I want to share with everyone, that if you can’t physically be with me in New York April first, 9:30 pm, Saturday you can connect Live Streaming”, keep saying Moroccan.
