The entire Chicago area is under threat from storms that could turn severe with strong gusts of wind and even possible hail on Tuesday afternoon.
Although the day will begin with mostly sunny skies and warmer temperatures, the winds will gradually increase in intensity throughout the day until reaching 40 miles per hour.
The cooler winds and weather conditions are due to the entry of a cold front that will bring isolated rains and storms starting at 2 p.m. first for counties north of Chicago and then moving towards the city around 4 p.m.
The storm line is also expected to continue its passage through counties in southern and northwestern Indiana from 6 pm onwards.
The main severe weather threat is expected for areas east of I-55, northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service.
Almost the entire Chicago area is under slight risk of severe storms that in their wake could bring the possibility of hail, strong wind and tornado cloud formation.
After the passage of the storms cooler temperatures are expected in the low 70s.
