A Chicago, Illinois, man has been charged with shooting and killing four sleeping passengers on a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Blue Line train.
The suspect, identified as Rhanni S. Davis, 30, faces four counts of first-degree murder, Fox News Chicago reported.
Authorities said the victims were attacked around 5:30 a.m. as the train headed into the Forest Park station. CTA workers alerted police upon arriving at the station.
Three of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while the fourth was transferred to Loyola University Medical Center, where she later died.
Two of the victims have been identified as Adrian Collins, 60, and Simeon Bihesi, 28. However, the identities of the other two victims have not been released, only that they were a man and a woman.
According to police reports, Davis fled the scene after the shooting but was later arrested on the CTA Pink Line. During the arrest, police recovered a gun believed to have been used in the attack.
“This heinous act of violence should never have happened, let alone on a public transit train,” the CTA said in a statement.
Davis was seen walking around the train car and shooting three of the victims who were seated separately, according to surveillance footage. The fourth victim was in a different car.
