Chiang Mai Governor, Mr. Nirat Pongsitthaworn, has called on all units to expedite the elimination of mosquito breeding grounds in order to prevent the spread of dengue fever and chikungunya disease. During a meeting of the board of directors for infectious diseases in Chiang Mai Province on June 21, 2023, Governor Nirat presided over discussions on the communicable disease situation in the area.

The Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office reported an increasing rate of COVID-19 infections in the region, aligning with the national and global situation. Most of the infected and deceased individuals were elderly people with underlying health conditions who had only received two doses of the vaccine.

The cumulative rate of dengue fever cases reached 320, with a morbidity rate of 15.83 per 100,000 population. Outbreaks have been reported in more than five districts, including Mueang Chiang Mai, Hang Dong, Wiang Haeng, Chiang Dao, and Mae Rim. Chikungunya has also been spreading, particularly in the San Pa Tong district. The governor has urged every district to swiftly control the diseases according to public health guidelines. The San Pa Tong District Sheriff has already ordered a comprehensive cleaning campaign for the entire district, with a specific focus on high-risk areas.

Furthermore, there has been an increase in multidrug-resistant tuberculosis cases. The governor has called for cooperation to reduce stigma among patients and ensure they receive complete treatment. Additionally, every district has been requested to enhance risk communication measures, and people have been advised to be cautious when consuming mushrooms to avoid poisoning.

Governor Nirat has emphasized the importance of public relations to raise awareness and understanding about COVID-19 vaccination. He has instructed all districts to mobilize officials and volunteers to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, both inside houses and in gardens, as these sites contribute to the spread of dengue fever and chikungunya.
