Taiwanese badminton player, Chia Hao Lee continued his surprising journey in the event Hong Kong Open. After defeating Viktor Axelsen, he successfully reached the quarter-finals after defeating Lee Zii Jia, Thursday (14/9).
Chia came to the round of 16 full of surprises because he eliminated Viktor Axelsen with a score of 21-16, 21-10 in the first round. Chia’s surprises didn’t stop there.
In the round of 16, it was Lee Zii Jia’s turn to become the victim of Chia’s rampage. Chia managed to win after fighting for 1 hour 6 minutes against Lee Zii Jia.
In the first game, Chia led 8-3. But after that he lost control of the game and Lee Zii Jia equalized the score at 9-9.
The battle between the two players continued to be tight until the score was tied at 13-13. Lee Zii Jia then won four points in a row and led 17-13.
Lee Zii Jia won game point at 20-17. Chia thwarted two early opportunities but ultimately lost 19-21.
Entering the second game, it was Chia’s turn to completely dominate the match. He won six points in a row to create a nine-point gap at 14-5.
Chia continued to advance until they led 19-14. Lee Zii Jia then won three points in a row but Chia responded well to this, who won the next two points. Score 21-17 for Chia.
Entering the deciding game, the flow of the match is really difficult to predict. Chia had led 4-0 but then Lee Zii Jia managed to lead by four points, 11-7 at the interval.
As soon as the field moved, Chia immediately equalized the score at 11-11. Draw scores often occur up to 16-16.
Chia then managed to lead 18-16 and reached match point at 20-18. Lee Zii Jia had equalized the score at 20-20 but the next two points in the setting immediately belonged to Chia.
The match ended with a score of 22-20 in the deciding game. Chia successfully qualified for the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open.
In the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open, Chia will challenge the winner of the duel between Jonatan Christie and Lee Cheuk Yiu from Hong Kong.
