“Chevron” gave up shale gas in Romania – 2024-09-09 08:21:23

/ world today news/ The American oil company “Chevron” (Chevron) is abandoning its projects for the exploration and extraction of shale gas in Romania, the Romanian agency “Mediafax” reported on Sunday. The official announcement was expected as Chevron’s shale gas drilling results were mostly negative.

“We confirm the intention to abandon our shale gas production projects in Romania in 2015,” a representative of the energy giant in Bucharest told the agency. According to him, “the decision was taken after evaluating the projects in Romania, which at the moment cannot compete with others from the campaign’s global portfolio”.

As the press in Romania wrote, “the results of drilling in Romania did not live up to expectations, and progress was too slow to make sense to continue investments”. At the end of last year, Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta admitted that Chevron’s shale gas exploration had not yielded results, despite significant investments.

“Romania is wasting a lot of effort looking for what doesn’t really exist. It seems we don’t have shale gas,” the prime minister noted. According to him, Romania will buy the missing volumes of gas from the Russian company Gazprom, notes TASS. /In the photo: Greenpeace activists protest against the surveys in Romania in 2014.
