The Chevrolet Colorado family already has three off-road versions, the Z71, Trail Boss and ZR2, but the manufacturer has been generous and developed another model together with American Expedition Vehicles.
The latest is called the ZR2 Bison, and along with an upgraded suspension, it gets differential locks, steel underbody protection, 35-inch tires and a quick-start control feature. The car also has other improvements that should provide a stable ride at high speeds off-road. The pickup is equipped with 311 mm (+39 mm) ground clearance, the best approach angle in the class (38.2 degrees), 17-inch wheel rims and Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires. Spare wheel moved to cargo box.
In the engine compartment of the off-road pickup, there is a 2.7-liter turbo unit that develops 314 horsepower and 569 Nm of torque and works in a set with an eight-speed automatic transmission Hydra-Matic 8L90 and a two-speed transfer case. Bison has everything to successfully operate in a difficult environment, but the Launch Control quick start system is adjusted so that the electronics itself determines what is under the pickup wheels (sand, asphalt, mud) and reduces wheel slippage.
In everyday conditions, such electronic assistance systems as automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist with lane departure warning, forward collision warning and automatic high beam control will come in handy. The pickup truck can carry 480 kg of cargo or tow a trailer weighing up to 2500 kg.
The ZR2 Bison will make its market debut in the fall. The price is unknown, but experts are sure that it will definitely exceed 50 thousand dollars.
