Chest and Abdominal Breathing Expiration, Here’s an Explanation and Function!

Expiration of chest breathing is a stage in the human respiratory system. In addition, there is also the process of inspiration.

Before that, do you know what breathing is? Breathing is an activity that aims to take in and exhale air.

This process can only be done by humans with the help of the respiratory organs. Human respiration is primarily located in the chest.

Expiratory Chest and Abdominal Respiratory System

Humans are living creatures that are currently at the highest food chain. To survive, of course, humans must breathe.

When you breathe, the respiratory organs take in and exhale air. This process is called inspiration and expiration.

Exhalation is the process of exhaling the air you have previously inhaled. Of course expiration will occur after the respiratory organs filter the air.

The human respiratory system also consists of two types, namely the chest and abdomen. However, the main human respiratory organ is in the chest.

Chest Expiratory System

The chest contains the lungs which are the main organs. When breathing with the chest, the expiration process will occur when the muscles between the outer ribs begin to relax.

The ribs will then be pulled back into their original position. After that, the volume of the chest cavity will decrease and the air pressure of the chest cavity will increase.

This is when the air pressure in the lungs will be higher than outside. As a result, the lungs will expel the stored air.

Expiratory Abdominal Breathing

The mechanism of expulsion of air in the abdominal respiratory system is of course different from expiratory chest breathing.

In abdominal breathing, the lungs of course still play a role. When the expiratory abdominal breathing mechanism occurs, the diaphragm muscle will lift and bend.

The muscle will then compress the chest cavity. After that, the volume of the chest cavity will decrease and air pressure will eventually increase.

The air pressure in the lungs will be higher than the outside and end up with the air in it being blown out.

Respiratory System Functions

The human body has various systems that are certainly very useful for survival.

The respiratory system that occurs also has its own function. Not only helps breathing to survive, here are some other functions of breathing:

  • The breathing system will help you talk and smell things.
  • The existence of a respiratory system will help the body to circulate air according to its normal temperature and humidify it according to the condition of the body itself.
  • Protects the airways from various harmful substances and irritants that threaten.

So, breathing does not necessarily just enter air or oxygen into the body and then exhale it back. Air of course also has various functions for the body.
