Jakarta –
It doesn’t feel like Chery has reached one year in Indonesia. How many cars from China are sold here?
Chery’s first step in enlivening the Indonesian automotive market was marked by two new cars, namely the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro, which were launched in November 2022.
Chery immediately entered the SUV segment in Indonesia. The best-selling line up, the Omoda 5, was introduced at the 2023 Indonesia International Motor Show. Then Chery brought the Omoda 5 GT, a more fierce Omoda 5 spec in September 2023.
In Indonesia, Chery is currently marketing four models, including the Omoda 5, Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro. Chery has also started to localize its products using a partner factory, namely PT Handal in Bekasi, West Java.
Furthermore, Indonesia is the first country to introduce the Omoda 5 EV in the world. The electric car is also planned to be produced locally.
Chery said that one year of Chery’s journey in Indonesia, the TIGGO Pro Series and OMODA 5 Series models had sold 3,418 units (as of October 2023) with the OMODA 5 as the model chosen by 75% of consumers. Chery’s total achievements in Indonesia from November 2022 to November 2023 always increase by an average of 400 units per month.
“We are very grateful for Chery’s achievements during one year in Indonesia. This achievement is the result of hard work and good cooperation from the entire Chery team, as well as support from consumers and
our partners. “We really use this one year to build a strong foundation because we want to contribute to automotive development in Indonesia significantly and in the long term,” said Qu Jizong, Executive Vice President of PT Chery Sales Indonesia.
“This strong foundation is also the basis for continuing with Indonesian consumers to move towards the vision of sustainable mobility,” he added.
Vice President of PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI), Harry Komara alias Harkam said with confidence that sooner or later Chinese car brands will replace Japanese brands as the rulers of the four-wheeled industry in the country.
In fact, according to Harkam, the transition process has begun to appear now. Indonesian people are slowly starting to trust cars made in China.
“So it’s like this…, under the 60s, who controlled the car market in Indonesia? Europe and America, right? Then Japan came. Now it’s been 50 years (Japan has been the ruler of cars in Indonesia), so it’s (China)’s turn.” please,” said Harkam, quoted Monday (23/10).
