Harry Kamora, Vice President of Chery Sales Indonesia, said that extra effort was needed to grab the attention of Japanese car users so they want to switch to Chery rather than car owners from Uncle Sam’s country, the United States (US) and Europe.
According to Harry, it was easier to attract the attention of US and European car consumers because Chery’s cars were filled with details of US and European cars. The reason is, Chery is a global brand that collaborates with several European car brands.
Harry claimed that it was not difficult for non-Japanese car consumers to choose a car made by Chery.
“So all kinds of things. But if I may say, the profile of our customers is that this car is a collaboration with Jaguar and Land Rover, so yes there is a European feel. So if user European car users, direct friendly,” Harry said, met at Senayan, South Jakarta, Friday (1/9).
“But for Japan, it’s a little hard work. But if he (car users) is American and European, it’s direct interest,” added Harry.
Since deciding to return to the Indonesian automotive market in 2021, Chery has put on sale three car models, and all three are SUV models.
The three products are Tiggo 7 Pro, Tiggo 8 Pro and Omoda 5. Most recently, Chery has introduced the Omoda 5 EV electric car at the GIIAS 2023 event. This car can already be ordered although the price has not been announced.
Quoting Gaikindo data, Chery has just made car sales as of January 2023. The total retail packaged in the January-July period reached 2,223 units, while wholesales 2.342 unit.
Chery’s investment in Malaysia
On the same occasion, Harry also straightened out the news about his principal investing in Malaysia amid plans to invest in Chery’s production factory facilities in Indonesia.
Citing reports Paultan, Chery has formalized a partnership with Inokom for CKD local assembly at a 200 hectare facility in Kulim, Malaysia. Two Chery models for neighboring Malaysia are Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro.
According to Harry, even though the Chery factory is located in Malaysia, the products produced there are only to meet the domestic market.
“Malaysian do just for Malaysian“There are provisions there, why Chery has to open (a factory) and there isn’t a joint there,” said Harry.
Chery previously announced plans to assemble cars in Malaysia with the Completely Knock Down or CKD scheme. This is quite a question mark, because previously Chery had confirmed that it would establish a production factory in Indonesia.
Currently, Chery Indonesia has started car production through a partner factory, namely PT Handal in Bekasi, West Java.
