Compared to last year, when the trees bloomed at a record time, they are blooming later this year in all areas. Yokohama was the slowest city compared to last year, with an announcement 17 days later.
This year, while mid-February was the warmest on record, there were many days with lower-than-normal temperatures from late February to early March. Although there was a brief period of high temperatures in mid-March, the temperature was again lower than normal just before flowering, which appears to have delayed flowering.
Flowering has begun and is expected to reach full bloom quickly
Weather News’ cherry blossom forecast shows that this year’s cherry blossoms will bloom at or slightly later than normal in eastern and western Japan. In many places in northern Japan and Hokuriku, the weather is expected to be earlier than normal.
Temperatures tend to be high at the beginning of April, and flowering is expected to begin in Kanagawa and Chiba prefectures, where no announcement has been made yet since the beginning of the week, with many places approaching full bloom. If you want to go cherry blossom viewing, be sure to check the blooming status and weather forecast carefully so you don’t miss your chance.
