Cherries for PLN 100! Horrendous fruit prices

Imported cherries for PLN 100!

We can already buy the first cherries, but their price is exorbitant. According to the website nazwawsadzie.pl – a kilogram of fruit costs as much as PLN 100. This is how much cherries from Spain and Greece cost. Currently, most of the cherries sold in stores and markets are imported. Several factors influence such a high price of fruit. The first harvest is always more expensive because there are fewer of them on the market. The costs of cherry production have also increased recently due to, among others, more expensive fertilizers and plant protection products or higher energy prices. According to the website nazwawsadzie.pl, the prices of cherries will drop over time. As more fruit ripens, their availability on the market will increase, which will reduce prices.

When will Polish cherries appear?

This year, the cherries bloomed record-breakingly early – at the beginning of April, a month earlier, usually these fruits bloom in the first half of May. Therefore, we will be able to buy the first Polish fruits soon, in mid-May, if there are no frosts – writes the website finanse.wp.pl. As one of the fruit farmers quoted by the portal says, Polish fruit will hit the market at a similar time to cherries imported from Greece, Spain or Turkey. – “So far, our advantage was that we had fruit later than in those parts of Europe, so they naturally ensured supply at the end of the season. This year, the harvest may overlap, which will result in a large amount of fruit in market at the same time” – says a fruit farmer from Mszczonów.
