Less than half of the inhabitants remain in the city, it is in the operational environment. In addition, the enemy deliberately destroyed the bridge, making it impossible to carry out humanitarian corridors.
Less than half of the inhabitants remained in Chernihiv, the city was completely destroyed. On Saturday, March 26, Mayor Vladislav Atroshenko announced this at a press conference at Ukraine Media Center Kyiv.
“The city has been completely destroyed. It’s easier to count the houses that still survived. More than 200 civilians were killed. Now there are 120-130 thousand citizens in Chernihiv (out of 285-290 thousand that were before the war – ed.). The city authorities are in place, everyone is working, supporting our army. No one is going to surrender the city,” Atroshenko said.
The mayor added that Chernihiv is in operational encirclement, the enemy deliberately destroyed the bridge that connected the city with the Kiev direction.
At the moment, Chernigov is not able to arrange humanitarian corridors or take out the wounded. The pedestrian bridge is under constant cross-fire, it is dangerous to transport goods over it, because it can fall.
Atroshenko noted that the local authorities plan to take out the seriously wounded, who cannot be operated on the spot. Currently, we are talking about 44 people (both military and civilian, including three children).
The mayor added that there is no sustainable electricity in the city, but water is transported by all available methods, and everything that can be repaired is repaired.
Atroshenko also stressed that volunteers are very helpful, who supply people with everything they need with extraordinary efforts.
Previously shown online video of the massive shelling of Chernihiv. Due to the constant shelling in the city for many days there is no heat, electricity and water, there is little food and medicine.
