Park in the hospital district of Cherbourg can sometimes be a puzzle … and the problem could get worse in the coming weeks.
Tuesday January 5, 2021, the unions of the CHPC discovered the Jean-Levalois parking project, whose work should begin in March. At the same time, the parking lot located rue de l’Ermitage, and used in particular by hospital staff, could disappear. Work should start there in the course of 2021. This should further complicate the search for places around the hospital.
The difficulty of parking, already recurring for many years, will become even more pronounced during these phases of the work which will overlap. In addition, new buildings will be built. And if Korian arrives, it will bring even more vehicles.
In search of solutions
Pending delivery from the Jean-Levalois car park, which will bring 230 places, solutions have been proposed by management on a provisional basis, including the Place Jacques-Demy or the Éléis car park. “Jacques-Demy, there is no lighting and it is dangerous to cross. In Éléis, there is distance and a lack of security after a certain time. “
Cycling, shuttles or carpooling have also been considered, but each of these solutions presented obstacles, according to Eric Labourdette. “Be careful, you don’t criticize in order to criticize. We had been told that there would be a parking lot with 230 spaces, the promise was kept and that’s fine. In the meantime, we do not see a solution. “
For the latter, beyond the fact that the hospital agents have to come well in advance before the hiring time to find a place, parking raises the question ofaccessibility for the general public. “If we take the example of Sainte-Mère-Église, if you take the travel time combined with the time to park, it is faster to go to Saint-Lô. This is the whole problem of having a hospital in the heart of the city. “
