Pasteur hospital in Cherbourg will acquire a Sport-health center. Practice developing for several years, the sport-health emerges in France with medical structures. And its benefits are no longer to be proven, in particular against cancer. “We can halve the risk of recurrence of breast or colon cancer,” says Anne Besnier, president of the Maison sport-santé (MSS) of Cotentin.
She and her team will open this first showcase of themedical physical activity in the territory in January. “We should have had the ARS accreditation in July, but there was a delay with the Covid. »A permanence will be installed atPasteur hospital, with a website to inform the public, associations and prescribers.
Three levels
Sport-health is broken down into three levels of patients. The role of the MSS will be to guide them in the best possible way. The first “concerns the prevention, for people who have risk factors and want to play sports to escape the disease ”.
The second level, an intensity above, “is for patients who want to practice an adapted physical activity in order to that the disease does not get complicated and stabilizes ”. For Anne Besnier, this is an excellent way to “reduce pharmaceutical consumption”.
Finally, the third and most important level “concerns very sick people with complications. They are forced to adapt to physical activities and must therefore be supervised by professionals, graduates ”. It’s the “ prescription sports ».
The MSS will thus have a role of ” showcase of everything that is offered in the Cotentin. People will be explained where they can find structures and associations to meet their needs, ”depending on the intensity component. The Sports-Health Center will be linked in particular with funding from the Planeth Patient associations, which fight against diabetes and obesity, and the League against cancer.
The blur during confinement
“During the first confinement, there was a stop to the practice of a part of health sport. We then observed a worsening of pathologies in many patients ”, indicates Anne Besnier. Thus, the government has authorized its practice for patients with a prescription, as well as professionals, high level athletes or people with disabilities for the second confinement.
Only, “this decree is interpreted in different ways. Normally, the prescription should be given for long lasting illnesses. Not for short psychological illnesses ”.
If the president of the MSS understands that confinement generates “small or big depression”, the attribution of prescriptions for these short pathologies “risks to divert those transmitted to the people who need them the most”.
The municipality, in particular, “spends its time responding to requests for access to the swimming pool for these people”.
The MSS will thus have an important role in intervening in this type of situation in order to guide these people to the appropriate structures.
