The citizen cooperative of Cherbourg is once again organizing a walk, to highlight the ecological impact that the city’s South-West bypass project.
Without a response from the Department to its request for participation in the development of the South-West ring road, the Citizens’ Cooperative again offers to discover ” natural places threatened by the road project”as she had done on November 21st.
No response from the Department
The announced goal of this new traffic axis dedicated to the automobile is to “free” the city center of Cherbourg from traffic jams, and “to offer” to the inhabitants of Nord-Cotentin a ring road which would make it possible to connect more directly the West and South. The Departmental Council, the authority behind the Cherbourg-en-Cotentin south-west bypass project, announced last October the organization ofa very broad consultationin order to gather the opinion of citizens on this project.
Like other stakeholders, the Citizens’ Cooperative has expressed its wish to participate in this consultation.
To date, we have not received a response from the Department. Faced with this silence, which is a breach of the announced commitment to transparency, the members of the Citizens’ Cooperative have decided to organize information walks.
A stroll is therefore scheduled next Sunday, February 27, 2022 in Fay Valley, a natural area that would make way for a connection ramp to the South-West ring road. This ramp would connect the Departmental 65 to the new rescue center, under construction near the Cotentin Polyclinic.
Understand the impact of the future ring road
As during the previous walk in the Nouainville and Octeville hunts, participants will be invited to reflect and discuss “the respective places of nature and the automobile”.
The walk will be commented on over the spaces crossed, in order to better understand the impact of the future road development.
The appointment is given from 2 p.m. for a departure at 2:30 p.m., this Sunday, February 27, at the bottom of the Polyclinic car park, next to SOS Médecins. Bring good shoes and appropriate clothing.
