Matthias Gié admits it himself: “Basically, I don’t like reading at all! »But this student of 1re from the Cachin high school in Cherbourg seems to have passed a milestone in recent weeks. His school was indeed selected to participate in the Fauves prize for high school students of Angoulême comic book festival, like 30 lycées de France selected by the Ministry of National Education.
An award that concerned all first year students of the establishment, ie 35 high school students, not necessarily used to spending a lot of time reading.
“When I come home from high school, usually either I go to my lessons or I turn on the console. “
But like all of his comrades, he got caught up in the game, when the mission was far from obvious. The festival thus selected 15 comics upstream, often thick books addressing themes that are not always easy.
Little time to release his Top 3
However, Cherbourg students could not start reading them until January 4, and they had to hand in their Top 3 in mid-January! “Before, they were in a professional training period,” explains Clémence Raoul. Suddenly, we decided to trivialize two half-days in order to give ourselves reading time ”. Moments that were appreciated by the students.
“These convivial moments took place at the CDI and in the applied arts room. The students were able to bring throws, cushions and other comfort items. The Lycée offered hot drinks, fruit juices and cakes. “
Students were also invited to take the books home, in turn. Matthias, in particular, brought back La Fange, a work he literally fell in love with. “Now I’m waiting for the release of number 2. And I hope it will win the prize! ” Since this meeting, the five finalists have been chosen by the national jury, and unveiled. Matthias’ favorite has been selected!
