Chemnitz: New name for space in art collections

The city of Chemnitz wants to use the 30th Days of Jewish Culture as an opportunity to name a square after the Jewish lawyer and notary Arthur Weiner.

The space between the art collections and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the Street of Nations is to be named and equipped with an explanatory board.

Arthur Weiner sat on the supervisory boards of various companies in Chemnitz.

“Due to his religion, his high social standing and his profession as a respected lawyer, Arthur Weiner was one of the first German citizens to be kidnapped and then murdered in 1933,” says the proposal of the Department of Culture.

Weiner’s fate is an example of the fate of the Jews in Germany.
