An orphan passage in Juvignac now has a name. This path that takes students from rue Jupiter to the Nelson-Mandela school group now bears the name of an emblematic figure in the history of Burkina Faso.
The mayor, Jean-Luc Savy, inaugurated the Thomas-Sankara road on 7 October in the presence of local elected representatives, relatives of the former president and representatives of the Comité Sankara and Burkinabè dell’Hérault associations.
Previously, playful and educational activities were offered to many children on the school group square. Burkinabé head of state from 1983 to 1987, Thomas Sankara set his country on the path of modernity. A precocious visionary, he campaigned for a non-dependent Africanized company. He was assassinated in October 1987. His image of him is still very much present in the collective unconscious of the country.
The same man who firmly opposed the apartheid policy in South Africa joins the torchbearer of this struggle on the site. Mandela and Sankara, a nice nod to history.
