Vangelis Tavos, friendly with Edi Rama, is the new mayor of Heimarra. Tavos gathered 58.62% of the votes (5,022 votes), while Petros Gikourias 41.38% and 3,545 votes.
Before the polls even closed, Mr. Tavos made a declaration of victory, thanking the people of Chimari for their trust. He promised to put the interests of the citizens above his own, lead Himarra to peace and increase cooperation between Albania and Greece. He also repeated his invitation to the candidate, Petros Gikourias, to accept the position of deputy mayor.

Himarra won today! Dear residents of Himara, Lukovë and Horë-Vranisht administrative units and all villages without any distinction. I am deeply grateful to you for showing me your trust in the administration of the Municipality of Himara. This belief will translate into work and the fulfillment of all the points of my program, for which you also voted for me.
I will lead by serving, I will work putting your interests first and I will be the mayor dedicated to each and every one of you, both my constituents and the place that didn’t vote for me, because Heimarra is indivisible, because the development we look forward to in Heimarra it is not fragmented but one and complete. Because political colors are individual while the future is common and communal. And, only in this way, inseparable from beliefs and divisions, in coexistence and complete harmony, we will advance Himarra, in peace and prosperity.
Heimarra belongs to the Chimariots and the Chimariots deserve to live as they want: in freedom, harmony and coexistence with all realities in Himari, moving side by side for the good of the community and the well-being of each family. Together we will have a democratic, modern, European, multicultural, developed and prosperous Himarra, with the development of an economy that directly affects the budget of ordinary families. A Himarra that will attract investment in tourism, services, infrastructure, culture and more. A comprehensive Himarra belonging only to the inhabitants, a people with a unique and glorious history, proud of their ancestors and the rare values they hold.
I want to express my deep gratitude to Prime Minister Edi Rama who nominated me and believed in me with his full will and kindness to give Himarra normality and even more support to move forward and develop as it deserves. For Kheimarra to become a pioneer of cooperation and harmony between Albania and Greece, leaving behind the closed chapter before August 4 and from today, looking forward to a more unifying and European future. I thank the SP structures, every member of my close group and distant supporters, every commissioner and observer and everyone who contributed to make the election process orderly and democratic. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I am very grateful.
In conclusion, I want to repeat what I have said repeatedly before the voting date, that my reason is a public contract to keep promises. Thus, no longer as a candidate, but now officially as the Mayor of Heimaris, I invite Mr. Petros Gikouria to accept the position of deputy mayor of the municipality. I know that this is unprecedented in the electoral history of the last three decades, which is precisely why I start first with the specific example of cooperation and union that this municipality deserves.
If Mr. Gikouria decided to stay and live in Heimarra, I welcome him to accept and join our program for Heimarra and the Heimariotes. It has an open invitation to contribute ideas and energy to move us forward. Because Chimarra belongs to everyone. In closing, I once again express my gratitude and feel deeply privileged and honored to serve you as Mayor of the Municipality of Heimarra”
