Chelsea rediscovered victory in the English Premier League this Monday at Fulham’s field (2-0), more than a month after having added three in three for the last time, thanks to an offensive efficiency recovered after three consecutive games without scoring in the English championship.
Chelsea took the southwest London derby with two goals scored in less than 2 minutes by the Ukrainian Mykhailo Mudryk (18) and the Albanian Armando Broja (20). This victory, the second in the league for Chelsea, brings a bit of peace of mind for Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino and confidence for his players.
The team led by Pochettino will visit second-to-last ranked Burnley on Saturday before playing a delayed match on Tuesday in Luton.
The main London newspapers thus reviewed, in their respective digital editions, Chelsea’s victory over Fulham as a visitor.
The Sun: After a completely disappointing start as Chelsea manager, everything finally worked out for former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochetrtino. Chelsea’s three midfielders, Moisés Caicedo, Enzo Feranández and Conor Gallagher were completely dominant. Considering the ridiculous way in which this Chelsea team has been randomly created, you could argue that Pochettino getting the team to play well against a decent Premier League team was actually an achievement in itself.”
Evening Standard: “Chelsea midfield hits the ground running against Fulham. Moisés Caicedo, Conor Gallagher and Enzo Fernández were excellent in all aspects of their games and finally came together in the middle. Meanwhile, the Mykhailo Mudryk magic finally has its moment. The much-improved Blues claim a morale-boosting derby victory amid further injury concerns for Mauricio Pochettino. “It was an almost perfect night for Chelsea as they overtook Fulham in the table and went from 15th to 11th. Unfortunately, Mudryk, Broja and Caicedo all came out and the second half was a bit flat.”
The Guardian: Chelsea find their rhythm with two goals in 80 seconds to devastate Fulham. The recovery is in an early phase, but the sight of a rampaging Mykhailo Mudryk scoring his first Premier League goal. “The interventions of Robert Sánchez keeping a clean sheet and Armando Broja finding the net in his first appearance since a serious injury make this victory strengthen Chelsea’s confidence in Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino.”
Daily Mirror: “Chelsea claimed their first away win of the season thanks to a remarkable first-half performance that earned them a comfortable 2-0 victory over Fulham in the west London derby. Having chopped and changed his midfield trio throughout the start of the season, it now appears that Pochettino has found the perfect balance for himself in midfield. Moisés Caicedo, who arrived in a record £115m move from Brighton in August, has been positioned as a defensive midfielder in front of the back four. Caicedo, Gallagher and Fernandez seemed to complement each other perfectly, in and out of possession, as Chelsea managed to win the ball back high up, keeping Joao Palhinha relatively calm. With the ball, the Blues were also calm and Fernández, in particular, was at the center of it.”
The Daily Telegraph: “Like the last time he faced Fulham, Mykhailo Mudryk lasted just 45 minutes. But what a difference this outstanding performance was to his unhappy appearance in February when the winger finally scored his first goal for Chelsea and hinted at a promising future at the beleaguered club. The balance felt better with the ball-savvy Mudryk and Palmer on either side of him and, although Broja was guilty of a horrendous early miss, he didn’t bother. Neither does Chelsea. They have pace to burn up front and athleticism in midfield, with Conor Gallagher playing a little further forward, and it was Moisés Caicedo who unleashed them when he switched play to the left.” (D)
