Chelsea have reached an agreement with Brighton to acquire Moises Caicedo for 115 million pounds (128 million francs). Never had a transfer been so expensive in England.
The 21-year-old Ecuadorian international was also coveted by Liverpool, whose coach Jürgen Klopp even announced a deal with Brighton on Friday for 110 million pounds. But the media then indicated that the player was hesitant about his future destination, preventing the conclusion of the transaction.
According to the media, Moises Caicedo finally preferred Chelsea where he will sign an 8-year contract. He will become the most expensive rookie in Premier League history, ahead of the Argentinian Enzo Fernandez (107 million pounds paid by Chelsea to Benfica in 2023), the Englishman Declan Rice (105 million paid by Arsenal to West Ham in 2023) and his compatriot Jack Grealish (100 million paid by Manchester City to Aston Villa in 2021).
Brighton would realize a huge added value with this player recruited against around 5 million euros, in 2021, from the Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle, and who does not even display 50 Premier League matches on the clock.
