Last-minute drama colors the duel Chelsea vs West Ham United. The Blues throw away the penalty, but Christian Pulisic be heroes to win them 1-0.
Chelsea entertain West Ham United at Stamford Bridge, Sunday (24/4/2022) night WIB in continuation Premier League. The hosts dominated, but struggled to create a serious threat in the first half.
The match was more open in the second half. But it wasn’t until the last minute that there was a really real chance.
Chelsea got a penalty in the 84th minute. Jorginho stepped up as the executor and unlucky for him, his shot was bad and was blocked by the goalkeeper.
But the hosts did not give up. Pulisic came as a three-point savior with his goal in the 90th minute, Chelsea’s 1-0 win over West Ham United.
Chelsea maintain third position by now collecting 65 points from 32 matches. West Ham stuck at number seven with 52 points from 34 games.
The course of the match
Chelsea started with the intention of controlling possession. But West Ham held on tight and prevented the hosts from getting close to the box.
Chances from Chelsea in the 8th minute. N’Golo Kante tries to release a shot from the front of the penalty box, still deviating from the goal.
Cesar Azpilicueta lost the ball in his own defense and West Ham attacked through Said Benrahma. But he had no support from his team-mates and his cross was secured by Edouard Mendy.
Chelsea cleared the corner less cleanly and the ball fell to Arthur Masuaku’s feet. His hard kick led to the goal, but was blocked by Marcos Alonso.
West Ham threatened in the 33rd minute. Pablo Fornals received Andriy Yarmolenko’s pass and his shot went wide in the bottom right corner.
Chelsea had a good situation in the 38th minute, but played the ball too long. Mason Mount accepted Kante’s cross in front of the box, but instead of shooting, it passed to Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Loftus-Cheek tried to send in a cross but no one grabbed and saved the goalkeeper. Chelsea urged his visitors in the remaining time of the first half. But no goals were created.
Loftus-Cheek bounced in a cross from Mount in the 52nd minute and it was finished by Timo Werner. Craig Dawson threw himself to clear the ball.
Response from West Ham four minutes later. Yarmolenko strode in and cheated the ball to Tomas Soucek, but his shot was too weak and was saved by Thiago Silva.
Chelsea threatened again, this time from a Kante attempt. His shot swerved and almost rounded Fabianski, but the West Ham keeper kept it out.
Two minutes later, Trevoh Chalobah threatened the West Ham goal. Fabianski just punched the ball that came.
Almost West Ham took the lead in the 70th minute. Yarmolenko escaped inside the box and tried to beat Mendy from a tight angle. Mendy’s shot could still be blocked, even including the rebound which was struck again by the West Ham striker.
Penalty! Chelsea get a penalty after Dawson brought down Romelu Lukaku. The referee reviewed the incident via the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and punished Dawson with a red card.
Jorginho stepped up to take the opportunity and his shot was easily saved by Fabianski!
GOAL! Chelsea made up for the missed penalty with a 90th minute goal! Alonso’s cross from the left was struck by Pulisic who was not guarded in the middle of the penalty box.
Mount’s kick from outside the penalty box just glided thinly over the goal. The match ended shortly after for Chelsea’s victory.
