Chelsea Vs Dortmund: Win 2-0, The Blues to the Quarterfinals

Chelsea managed to beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the second leg of the big 16 Liga Champions. The Blues advanced to the quarterfinals 2-1 on aggregate.

Chelsea vs Dortmund takes place at Stamford Bridge. Wednesday (8/3/2023) early morning WIB. The Blue need a win to avenge the 0-1 defeat in the first leg.

As a result, Chelsea were able to finish the match with a 2-0 win through goals from Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz. Chelsea also has the right to advance to the quarter-finals with an aggregate of 2-1.

Course of the Match

Chelsea had immediately threatened when the game had not even gone two minutes. Raheem Sterling found himself one on one with the Dortmund keeper, but the former Manchester City man’s late decision to fire meant the chance was wasted.

Chelsea launched a barrage of attacks within five minutes. There was one of Joao Felix’s penetrations which troubled the visiting team’s defense.

A crisis occurred at the mouth of the Dortmund goal in a corner kick scheme in the 40th minute. Kalidou Koulibaly successfully cheated the ball, which was then driven away by Alexander Meyer’s feet. Felix then grabbed a loose ball, but failed to score.

Dortmund’s goal finally broke also in the 43rd minute. Sterling missed a shot with his first touch, but kept the ball in control and then fired in a powerful shot. Chelsea led 1-0 until halftime.

Chelsea got a windfall shortly after the second half started. A Ben Chilwell cross hits Marius Wolf’s hand.

The referee then awarded a penalty to Chelsea. Havertz failed to score after his shot hit the post, but the execution was repeated because a player had entered the penalty box before the ball was kicked.

Harvetz returned to duty on that second occasion. Chelsea also managed to lead 2-0 in the 53rd minute.

Sebastien Haller almost tore the Chelsea goal in the 58th minute. In an already good situation, he failed to direct the ball into the goal.

Kepa made a sip save in the 64th minute. He parried a hard shot from Marius Wolf.

Chelsea had scored the third goal in the 75th minute through Conor Gallagher. The goal was disallowed because Sterling was in an offside position before baiting Gallagher.

Dortmund tried hard to find one goal in the remaining matches to match the aggregate. However, no goals came until the fight was over.
