Chelsea secured a 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday (October 16) at Villa Park in the Premier League. Mason Mount scored a brace to help Graham Potter continue his glorious start to life in West London.
Meanwhile, the Blues face competition from Liverpool to purchase a striker from RB Leipzig. Elsewhere, the London giants are planning to sign a midfielder from Ajax in January.
On that note, here’s a look at Chelsea’s key transfer stories on October 16, 2022:
Chelsea face Liverpool competition for Christopher Nkunku
Chelsea could face Liverpool competition for Christopher Nkunku’s signing, according to The Sun on Metro.
The French forward has played for RB Leipzig this season and has sparked interest from clubs across Europe. The Blues have reportedly agreed on personal terms with the player ahead of a possible move next year.
However, the Blues will have to avoid competition from Liverpool to secure Nkunku’s signing. The Reds reportedly sent observers to observe the Frenchman during Leipzig’s match against Celtic in the UEFA Champions League last week. The 24-year-old failed to score a goal but was a threat in the last third.
Liverpool are unlikely to get hold of the deal as Chelsea are in deep talks with the player’s entourage. However, if Nkunku’s move to Stamford Bridge fails, the Reds could jump in for the player.
Blues predicts January move for Edson Alvarez
Chelsea plan to sign Edson Álvarez in January, according to Mediotiempo on caught offside.
Graham Potter is still looking for a new midfielder and has his eye on the Mexican. The 24-year-old was a target for the Blues this summer, but Ajax refused to let him go. The giants of the Premier League have signed Denis Zakaria on loan from Juventus.
However, the Swiss international failed to break Potter’s plans at Stamford Bridge. He has yet to kick a ball for the club and the move will likely end soon. The London giants are looking for a long-term replacement for N’Golo Kante, who endured an injury-ravaged season.
Chelsea want Álvarez to take over from the Frenchman at Stamford Bridge and are ready to move in for him at the end of the year.
Trevoh Chalobah opens up about his favorite position
Trevoh Chalobah said he prefers to play defensively, although he is comfortable in midfield too. There is stiff competition for backline seats at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana.
However, speaking with the club websiteChalobah said that even though he has played in midfield before, he feels his place is in the lower third.
“I’ve played in midfield during my three loans (at Ipswich, Huddersfield and Lorient) and in a lot of positions really, but I feel that my main position is the center-back. This is the position I started in during my academy days as well, ”Chalobah said.
He added:
“Now I just want to play a lot of games because that’s what every player on this team wants to do. It’s about making sure I keep my head down, keep working, and take advantage of my opportunities when they arise. I want to be a main player on this team and help us win games and trophies. It’s a great club and we want to win trophies every season ”.
Chalobah has appeared four times for the Blues this season.
