TALKS between Chelsea and Chicago Fire’s Gabriel Slonina have reportedly broken down.

The Blues had originally agreed to sign the 17-year-old Slonina for a fee of around £5.5 million.

However, according to the transfer expert Fabricius Romanothe deal recently collapsed due to sanctions the UK government placed on the club.

On Twitter, he announced: “Chelsea was in advanced talks to sign talented Chicago Fire goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina. [born in 2004].

“The plan was to sign Slonina for a £5/6m fee and then loan him to Chicago until 2023.

“Talks have now been broken off due to UK sanctions.”

Earlier this month it was revealed that Roman Abramovic had all of his assets completely frozen.

The Blues have been unable to sell game tickets or merchandise and have been hit with a transfer ban.

This means that they are not allowed to bring any players, including Slonina.

Chelsea were leading the race to sign Leeds star Raphinha, but that proposal also fell through due to sanctions.

Meanwhile, the club risks losing a group of players by not being able to negotiate contracts.

César Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen are about to sign for Barcelona for free when their contracts expire in the summer.

Antonio Rudiger is also likely to leave on a free transfer in the summer – he is considering a move to Manchester United.
